11:30am to Wednesday, August 3, 2016
12:00pm EDT
Join members of Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia(PNGP), Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania (GWP) and Pennsylvania Health Funders Collaborative (PHFC) for a unique opportunity gathering funders from across Pennsylvania to network and learn about the local innovations in food access and food systems.
You may recall that in June 2015 a similar trip was organized when PNGP and Greater Philadelphia Food Funders hosted GWP and PHFC members on site visits to leading organizations in Greater Philadelphia. Participants in last year’s trip – both funders and key food system leaders -- reported high value in the learning and networking opportunities.
This year, the opening luncheon features Heather Hallman, Advisor to the Governor on Food and Nutrition Programs, who will share Pennsylvania’s new blueprint for food security and provide insight as to the roles funders can play a role in this coordinated effort to become a hunger-free state. Then we move on to site visits to exemplary programs and organizations in greater Pittsburgh, ranging from grassroots-level efforts (e.g. Oasis Farm and Fishery, Homegrown Gardens ) to innovative model solutions (e.g. 412 Food Rescue and fitUnited) to a major regional asset (Chatham University’s Eden Hall Campus). We have also built in opportunities to hear from policymakers, nonprofit leaders and other key stakeholders in food systems and policy, as well as network with your Pennsylvania funding colleagues.
