Healthy Meals Home Delivery: Delivering Innovation to Low-Resource Communities
Join us as we discuss fitUnited’s Healthy Meals Home Delivery pilot program over breakfast. This program was developed by the United Way of Southwestern PA to test a model using USDA Federal funding to deliver healthy food to home-based childcare providers living in areas with low supermarket access.  Phase III of the program proved that through efficiencies of scale, the United Way was able to purchase weekly healthy groceries for providers at 50% of retail food costs and the CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) allowance.  Over breakfast, we will learn more about the initiative and their proposal to the USDA which requests to allow the use of the remaining CACFP allowance to pay for transportation and delivery of food on a weekly basis to providers’ homes.

10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Community Kitchen Pittsburgh

Community Kitchen Pittsburgh is a mission-based, multi-faceted food service company whose goals include workforce development, community-engaged social enterprise, and food waste reduction.  Join us as we learn about their mission to use food as the foundation to change lives and strengthen communities and hear about the impact of CKPgh from the current cohort of trainees.
