According to new research from Talent Philanthropy Project, a deficit of investment in nonprofit leadership is hurting the effectiveness of nonprofits and their funders in achieving social impact. From GWP’s Funding Outlook surveys, we know that many GWP members have a history of investing in leadership development for staff and boards of local nonprofits. That said, nationally less than 1% of foundation grant dollars go toward developing nonprofit professionals or enabling nonprofits to better support their employees.

Our presenter is Rusty Stahl, Founder, President and CEO of Talent Philanthropy Project, a new national initiative to maximize foundation investments in an effective nonprofit workforce. This briefing will provide useful concepts, new research, and practical tools to help funders use their limited resources to support talent development in their core grantees. Together, we will walk through discussion guides that are designed to help funders have meaningful conversations about funding talent development both internally and with grantees. Rusty will be reviewing these same tools and resources at a program with our nonprofit community during his visit as well. Both groups will walk away with action-oriented ideas and resources that can be applied within their respective organizations and we hope that this set of conversations will allow funders and nonprofits reach a clearer understanding of possibilities for talent investment!
This discussion complements national conversations in philanthropy about organizational performance; diversity, equity and inclusion; nonprofit leadership; overhead and the real cost of running nonprofits.
This event is part of Talent Philanthropy’s ongoing Listening Tour. Rusty will seek to learn from you as much as he shares, and to facilitate opportunities for participants to learn from one another.
