An article in Smart Business takes a look at the greater Pittsburgh philanthropic and nonprofit communities and how they work together for community impact.  Foundations play a key role in engineering Pittsburgh’s continued economic recovery and improving its quality of life.  They do so by working hand in hand with the nonprofit community, which collectively creates 75,000 direct jobs per year. The competition for funding forces nonprofits to perform better and deliver measurable results, so area nonprofits must evolve into smarter organizations, working in many respects like those in the for-profit world.
