The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council and The Pittsburgh Foundation are joining forces on Thursday, October 2 to sponsor the Arts Day of Giving, an 18-hour, online fundraising event. The goal: to raise $2 million or more in contributions to approximately 150 nonprofit arts and cultural groups in Western Pennsylvania. Nonprofit arts groups rely on a mix of contributions from foundations, corporations, the government and donations from individuals. Individual donors nationwide provide nearly 25 percent of arts groups’ budgets, but in the Pittsburgh region, we give far less — under 5 percent. Come on, people! Individual gifts of $15 or more contributed on October 2 at www.pittsburghgives.org will prompot a pro-rated matching gift from a $250,000 fund provided by the Heinz Endowments.
