Girls and women, especially those of color, are under-represented in computing fields from K-12 right through higher education and the workforce. An abstract of a new report from McKinsey and Pivotal Ventures suggests some ways to address the specific challenges they face. The authors suggest offering on-ramps for beginners; cultivating a community of supportive peers; ensuring adults (e.g. family, teachers) are encouraging and inclusive; and providing access to technology and computing experiences. Ultimately, reducing barriers for women and girls of color will promote greater inclusion of all under-represented groups. Read the full “Rebooting Representation” report.
