Please join the Jewish Funders Learning Network for our fourth meeting of the year. During the first part of this session, we will discuss how the Jewish community is responding to rising anti-Semitism and emboldened hate groups. We will hear from Mark Nordenberg (former Chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh) and Laura Ellsworth (partner at Jones Day), who are partnering to design a global anti-hate conference. This conference, originally planned to be held in Pittsburgh this fall, will highlight what our region experienced and learned from the shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue building. It is now tentatively rescheduled for later in 2021 and we look forward to a preview from these two civic leaders.

The second part of this session will focus on human and social services as the pandemic wears on. We will hear from Raimy Rubin, Manager of Community Impact at the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, who will share findings from a recent Brandeis University study that describes the effects of COVID 19 on Jewish Communities (including Pittsburgh). This network or small working groups may want to drill down on some of the identified issues e.g. serving seniors, adolescents’ behavioral health, and more.

Looking to the future, we will also allow some time to plan the learning agenda for this network going forward.

Please register by October 21st

The Jewish Funders Learning Network is an informal network of philanthropists and grantmaking professionals in Pittsburgh who fund Jewish causes. Modeled after other GWP funder learning networks, and run in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, the purpose of this network is to create a space where:

  • People who think about grantmaking in the Jewish space can meet each other
  • Relationships are formed that carry beyond network activities
  • Funders have somewhere to go to safely and productively raise and discuss questions and concerns with their peers
  • Funders with common interests and approaches can form coalitions to address common causes.

Resources from previous meetings can be accessed here.
