As part of 1996 welfare reforms, food assistance (SNAP benefits) for non-working able-bodied adults without dependents became subject to a time limit of three months. These time limits for food assistance, initially scheduled for January 2016, go in effect in June 2016 in many Pennsylvania counties including Allegheny, Butler, Greene and Washington.
