Giving USA Foundation has released a new analysis of the results of this year’s #GivingTuesday, the global giving movement founded in 2012 and driven by social media. According to estimates compiled by Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, on #GivingTuesday in December 2014, $34.9 million was raised online via five major donation processing platforms (Blackbaud, DonorPerfect, GlobalGiving, Network for Good and Razoo). Initial estimates of offline donations that day total an additional $10.8 million, bringing the 2014 estimated total to $45.7 million. Comparing #GivingTuesday in 2013 to 2014, the total amount raised online increased an estimated 63 percent. The Giving USA Spotlight report highlighting these and other findings is available for purchase at the Giving USA Foundation’s website.
