A just-launched initiative, the Pledge 1% movement aims to recruit start-up companies that will embed philanthropy and community investment into their business models as they grow. Building on the 1-1-1 model created 15 years ago by Marc Benioff at Salesforce, participants are invited to pledge 1 percent of their equity, 1 percent of their employees’ time, and 1 percent of their product to charity in the next year. The 1% Pledge organizers (the Salesforce.com Foundation, Atlassian Foundation and Entrepreneurs Foundation of Colorado) hope to recruit 500 companies by #GivingTuesday 2015.
