The Allegheny Regional Asset District board allocates half of the revenue from Allegheny County’s 1 percent sales and use tax to support public libraries, public transit, sports and civic facilities and arts and cultural organizations. The seven-member board has allocated $109.5 million in grants that will help to fund 106 nonprofits in 2020.
The 2020 budget, approved Thursday, includes $7.3 million in capital and special project grants.
- Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - $22.7 million
- Carnegie Library eiNetwork - $3.4 million
- Carnegie Library eResources - $250,112.
- Allegheny County regional parks - $22,290,190 in operating funds & $1.3 million capital grant will be used for facility renovations, restroom renovations and maintenance equipment.
- Carnegie Science Center - $32,000 capital grant will be used to buy assistive listening devices, captioning glasses and tactile star globes for Buhl Planetarium.
- Contemporary Craft - $32,000 to install automatic doors and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant parking spaces, ramp and water fountain plus interior signage
Three of the organizations funded this year are first-time recipients.
- The August Wilson House - $5,000 operating grant for community events, education programs, theatrical performances and workshops.
- Belle Voci, an intergenerational women’s choir founded in 2012, uses the power of song to benefit women’s causes. The group received $2,500 to pay market-level wages to its staff.
- Guardians of Sound strives to build a younger and more diverse audience for acoustic musicians. The group received a grant of $2,500.
