According to Edelman’s annual trust barometer, over the past year Americans’ trust in nonprofit organizations has fallen almost ten percent (from 58 percent to 49 percent). And, nonprofits were not alone: trust in government, business and the media also fell. As stated in the executive summary, “No one institution will succeed in rebuilding trust on its own. Business and CEOs have a critical role to play. Brian Moynihan of Bank of America put it well: ‘Our job as CEOs now includes driving what we think is right. It’s not exactly political activism, but it is action on issues beyond business.’ ”
