Southern California Wildfires: Resources For Funders

Wildfires in Ventura, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside and Santa Barbara Counties are forcing thousands of people from their homes and destroying millions of dollars in property.  Our colleague, Southern California Grantmakers, is providing updated information on how funders can help everyone affected by these devastating fires. 

Ventura County

• Ventura County Community Foundation has set up a Disaster Relief Fund to support the immediate and mid- to long-term needs of those impacted by the fire.
• United Way of Ventura County has set up the Thomas Fire Fund and has formed a strategic partnership with the American Red Cross of Ventura County and the Ventura County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services.
• Ready Ventura County has relevant funder information. 
• The Salvation Army Ventura Corps is asking for donations of food and water.
• The child-focused organization, Baby2Baby, has started a registry so that people can send diapers, formula, blankets and other supplies to those displaced by the wildfires.

Los Angeles County

• The Red Cross of Los Angeles County provides shelter locations, evacuation updates and safety information to those threatened by the fires.
• The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation has a fund to support the First Responders.
• The California Community Foundation's (CCF) Wildfire Relief Fund supports intermediate and long-term recovery efforts for major California wildfires, as well as preparedness efforts.

• Check information from the local authorities in Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles
• United Way of Greater Los Angeles has set up the Southern California Wildfire Fund to support victims of the fires in Los Angeles County. 
• Catholic Charities of Los Angeles is raising money to help with fire relief efforts and for the victims. 

Santa Barbara County

• Santa Barbara County has set up an emergency response page and has a page with the latest Thomas Fire information and updates.

Statewide

• The California Fire Foundation's Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE) program brings immediate, short-term relief to victims of fire or other natural disaster throughout California.
• The California Fire Foundation also supplies emergency support to departments and families of firefighters killed in the line of duty and provides educational assistance to the children of fallen firefighters through the California Firefighters Endowment and Daniel A. Terry Scholarship program. 
• Donate to the American Red Cross in support of the “California wildfires.”
• The Alyssa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation is providing direct support to burn victims, survivors, and first responders.
• Change a Life Foundation has awarded  $50,000 grant for case management needs.
