The Washington County Community Foundation will be moving to the historic Samuel Brownlee House, thanks to a donation by William and Saundra Stout. The house is one of the oldest standing buildings in Washington County and is registered with the National Register of Historic Places. The foundation will locate its offices on the second floor, while the Washington County Historical Society will establish a museum on the ground floor.
Betsie Trew, President and CEO of the Washington County Community Foundation, is expecting “significant growth” after the relocation. The foundation will invest $1 million in several phases to rehabilitate the house, and raise another $1 million for an endowment for its upkeep. It hopes to move its offices by the end of the year, with the museum opening by mid-2015.
