Makerspace Protohaven, formerly Tech Shop, will add 6,000 square feet of workshop space and 1,500 square feet of project space thanks to a $165,000 grant from the Henry L. Hillman Foundation through fiscal sponsor New Sun Rising. The grant will fund equipment for the expanded space, like a CNC router, additional computers and initial electronics and jewelry benches. The funding also will allow the group to offer income-based member pricing and create partnerships with other nonprofits.
