Pittsburgh Steps Up To Combat Homelessness

Thursday, December 11, 2014

In June, the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced it would eliminate its funding for some supportive housing services, resulting in funding shortfalls for many organizations that serve Allegheny County’s homeless and those at risk of homelessness.  The Pittsburgh Foundation recently announced a three-week Critical Needs Alert, asking for the public’s help.  The result: in just six hours, $900,000 in challenge and matching funds was raised via PIttsburghGives.org.  The funds will provide much-needed support to 36 organizations that provide emergency and temporary housing to the homeless.
