The Pittsburgh Foundation Files Amicus Brief in PA Gerrymandering Case

Tuesday, January 16, 2018

The Pittsburgh Foundation has taken the highly unusual step of filing an amicus brief in the gerrymandering case now before the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court.  It asks the court to develop “a reasoned and fair standard that will eliminate unconstitutional partisan gerrymandering” in the Commonwealth.  According to CEO Max King, the foundation has become increasingly concerned about the erosion of voters’ voices due to districts drawn on excessively partisan lines.  Ultimately, the foundation’s leadership decided it should demonstrate its commitment to the public good and government accountability by filing the ‘friend of the court’ brief to make its perspective known both to state judges and to the public.
