Philanthropy’s Future In Flux As Volunteering And Giving Rates Waver

According to Independent Sector, both charitable giving and volunteering are trending down. The University of Maryland’s Do Good Institute analyzed data from the Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the findings are concerning. Total hours volunteered are rising, but the number of people volunteering is declining, especially younger adults. Surprisingly, the declines are greatest in historically high-social-capital areas.
