Communities across the country are reeling from the recent fatal shootings of black men by police in Baton Rouge and Falcon Heights and subsequent attacks on police. Foundations and grantees are trying to find a way to stop the violence and address the causes. The Association for Black Foundation Executives hosted a conference call for its constituents to address the issues and are asking peers and colleagues not to give up hope. Local funders like The Heinz Endowments have done work on issues of racial inequality, but President, Grant Oliphant has acknowledged that for our community to prosper, philanthropy needs to do more.
