Philanthropy Bets Big On Sustainable Development Goals

Tuesday, September 18, 2018

In 2015, The United Nations defined a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) intended to alleviate poverty, preserve the planet and promote universal health and well-being by 2030.  The Bridgespan Group recently compiled data on ‘big bets’ placed by private foundations, corporate foundations and wealthy donors toward the SDGs. Most of the ‘big bets’ supported implementing and scaling up successful programs ($23B); another $13B was invested in developing and testing innovative solutions.  Overwhelmingly, the most supported SDG was good health and well-being; the least support went to responsible consumption and production.
