Major U.S. Foundations Aim for Social Change

As reported in The New York Times, the nation’s major foundations are increasingly using their resources to promote social change rather than ameliorating immediate needs.  Climate change, inequality and criminal justice reform are a few of the major challenges now being tackled by national foundations such as Ford, MacArthur and Gates.   Judith Rodin, president of the Rockefeller Foundation, puts it this way: “Twenty-first century problems require nimble and creative solutions.  They can’t be solved by your grandfather’s philanthropy.”
