Lilly CEO Finds Overlap Between Corporate Mission and Philanthropy

On November 18, Eli Lilly and Co. CEO John Lechleiter (who will shortly retire) shared his thoughts on the relationship between businesses and their communities.  He contended that a business’s mission should not be measured only in profits, and called on companies to go beyond corporate contributions, service on nonprofit boards and sponsoring fundraisers. “It’s not only possible, but actually quite natural to align your business interests and even your bottom line with the goals of community engagement,” Lechleiter said.
