Leading and Following By Example: Companies Taking a Public Stance on Social Issues

Based on a Public Affairs Council study, 60 percent of businesses report rising pressure to engage on social issues – but a divided society, paired with warp-speed social media, makes it challenging for a business to advocate a position publicly.  In April, CECP asked its members about how their companies’ strategies for speaking out on social issues are changing.  More than 20 percent of respondents reported that they were advancing their strategy for speaking out, based on public responses to the business’s position.
