Although there are still several more days of rain to come, the effects of Hurricane Harvey along Texas’s Gulf Coast are already being described as catastrophic. For GWP members who wish to contribute to response and relief efforts, the Center for Disaster Philanthropy has posted a Hurricane Harvey Disaster Profile on its website; it includes updates on which charities and public-sector agencies are already at work and what they are doing in the affected communities.
The Center is also hosting a national webinar on how to allocate resources to meet the needs of communities affected by the storm. The webinar takes place on August 29 at 3:30 PM eastern time; you can find registration details here.
Our colleagues at Philanthropy Southwest are working with Council on Foundations to disseminate information from FEMA and the CDC. In the meantime, here is some preliminary information:
- The Greater Houston Community Foundation is managing Mayor Turner's Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.
- Baptist Health Foundation (San Antonio) has voted to award $100,000 in disaster relief, split evenly between the Texas Baptist Men and the Salvation Army.
- The Dallas Foundation has established a Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.
