The Henry L. Hillman Foundation donated $2 million to the University of Pittsburgh’s new biotech startup incubator, LifeX . The donation will get the headquarters in the Strip District up and running, and for facilities and programming at the center. LifeX is among a group of new Pitt initiatives that are designed to commercialize both faculty research and aid life sciences entrepreneurs. A Brookings Institution study in September concluded that Pittsburgh has the fundamentals to foster a new, innovation-based economy, much like the steel industry that once dominated the city.
