Giving USA, the pre-eminent source of charitable giving data, released its annual analysis on June 18 – with mixed news for nonprofits. While total giving in the U.S. reached a new dollar high of $427.7 billion, the rise over 2017 was just .7% in current dollars; when adjusted for inflation, total giving actually declined 1.7% from the prior year. Giving by individuals – the vast majority of all contributed funds – weakened compared to 2017, but giving by corporations rose a healthy 5.4%.
