Giving Money and Time: How States Stack Up

Thursday, May 8, 2014

A new poll from Gallop tracks reported charitable giving and volunteering state by state. Overall, Americans’ generosity continues to compare favorably with the rest of the world. Utah is the leader in reported charitable giving; nearly half of the Utahans surveyed reporting that they had donated money and also volunteered during the previous month. In the past Gallup has found that people with higher well-being are likelier to give, and this continued to hold true. In Pennsylvania, 60 percent of respondents reported they had contributed money to a charity in the prior month; 44 percent reported volunteering; and 35 percent reporting they had done both. Check out the data for all 50 states.
