Charitable crowdfunding is a rising trend, and on May 6, more than 300,000 donors nationwide contributed more than $50 million to nonprofit causes during the one-day Give Local America event. Approximately 120 communities participated, benefiting some 7,000 nonprofit recipients. With more than 305,000 donations processed in 120 communities, Give Local America represented the largest one-day, charitable crowdfunding effort to date. Locally, The Pittsburgh Foundation hosted its sixth annual Day of Giving to coincide with Give Local America; $5.7 million was raised (including matching funds), representing about 11 percent of the national total.
