A new report from Council on Foundations and CF Insights has very good news: in 2012, community foundations set new records for asset levels and average gift size. That's even better news for the people and places they serve.

The Columbus Survey 2012: Guideposts to New Heights draws on data from 276 community foundations representing a combined asset base of nearly $58 billion. For 79 percent of respondents, asset totals exceeded the previous high from the year 2007. Donor-advised funds remain popular, growing at an average rate of 22 percent (more than assets overall). In the best news for nonprofits, the average gift and grant sizes increased by 15 percent and 6 percent, respectively, over the prior year.
