The Community Foundation Of Westmoreland County Administers Fund To Improve Air Quality

Wednesday, December 20, 2017

The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County (CFWC), an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Foundation, has been selected by Penn Environment to oversee a $300,000 fund created under a Clean Air Act settlement with ArcelorMittal.  The settlement funds – part of what may be the largest citizen suit penalty of its kind in Pennsylvania history -- will support efforts to improve air quality in some of the communities most affected by emissions from ArcelorMittal’s coke plant, including Monessen, Donora, Monongahela, and Caroll Township.  Penn Environment opted to work with CFWC based on its deep local knowledge of the affected communities.
