Wednesday, February 5, 2020

Bank of America has announced a $215,000 grant to Chatham University for their new baker training program which combines practical instruction and education. The effort is a collaboration of its Center for Regional Agriculture, Food and Transformation and Community Kitchen Pittsburgh.

The program works in tandem with CRAFT’s food workshops program and Food Innovation Lab, and Community Kitchen Pittsburgh’s culinary training program. Training will take place primarily at Community Kitchen’s Hazelwood facility. Additional on-site training is planned with local Pittsburgh bakeries, such as Mediterra Bakehouse, and with Chatham’s new wood-fired bread oven at its Eden Hall campus. Students completing the program will receive assistance with finding industry positions paying fair wages, benefits and opportunities for advancement.
