The Pittsburgh Foundation's Second Day of Giving took place on September 21 and raised a remarkable $2.1 million for regional nonprofits. This amount was added to the $1.2 million raised on the partially completed May 3 giving day and with the various matching funds, put the total raised at just over $5 million for the nonprofit community. The Days of Giving events covered Allegheny, Westmoreland and Butler counties, and involved the participation of its affiliate, The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, and a separate philanthropy, the Endowment for Butler County. The program began in 2009, and has raised more than $43 million for organizations in southwestern Pennsylvania.
