2015 Edelman Trust Barometer Survey Highlights Importance of Building Trust in Business

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

The global PR firm Edelman has released the findings of its 2015 Edelman Trust Barometer, its 15th annual trust and credibility study of the global institutions of government, media, business and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).   Corporate philanthropy, community relations and CSR professionals apparently have their work cut out for them: in the past year, trust in all four sectors declined.   However, 81 percent of survey respondents agreed that a company can act in ways that both increase profits and improve the economic and social conditions in its community, and 75 percent believe a company can be more profitable by finding ways to solve social and community problems.  Based on this, Edelman advises businesses to build trust by increasing transparency and by demonstrating that innovation benefits not just the company, but the broader community.
