Hurricane Sandy - October 2012

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, GWP members are encouraged to share information about any grantmaking to provide disaster relief - we will compile responses so that all members can keep abreast of what others are doing. Although the list below is not comprehensive, we hope that it provides useful information. If you know of other philanthropic or giving efforts, please contact Melody Harris by email or 412-697-0187.

The Center for Disaster Philanthropy offers useful tools and resources; the Council on Foundations has also activated its disaster web site to provide resources to inform giving to address the results of the storm. Please contact GWP if we can be of any additional assistance.

The Hurricane Sandy Recovery and Rebuild Fund has been created at the Community Foundation of New Jersey to address intermediate and long-term impacts of this natural disaster and providing flexible support to local organizations and communities Guided by a statewide Advisory Committee, the Fund seeks to facilitate collaboration between the philanthropic and corporate communities; it will strategically target grants, leveraging the partners’ deep relationships throughout New Jersey and their knowledge of effective local organizations and leaders.
