It’s only logical that leadership change is an inevitable aspect of nonprofit organizational life. Research suggests that each year, one in ten nonprofits goes through a leadership transition. And as more and more leaders from the aging baby boom generation begin to retire, we can expect to see a significant increase in these leadership turnovers.
Such turnovers can result in funder and staff concerns as well as community confusion that can often be disruptive to even the strongest organizations. These transitions need not be associated with negative impacts, though. In fact, when handled appropriately, they can be used as opportunities to grow and thrive.
Join us as we discuss the basics and potential benefits of using an interim Executive Director (interim ED) during a leadership transition.
Executive Director of the Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management, Peggy Outon, and co-founder of Nonprofit Talent, Michelle Pagano Heck, will briefly discuss the issues that nonprofits in transition should consider when weighing whether to use and interim ED.
Then we will hear directly from two experienced professionals, William Stein and Geoffrey Stillson, both of whom are business and community leaders with extensive experience in both the for profit and nonprofit sectors and have served our region’s nonprofits in the capacity of interim ED on multiple occasions.
