In just the past five years, many Pittsburgh homeowners, renters, and prospective home buyers have experienced an increase in housing costs. The Affordable Housing Task Force was formed to address the challenges Pittsburghers are facing today and in the future and was charged with assessing the current and projected future landscape of housing affordability in the City of Pittsburgh, evaluating current programs and initiatives to produce new affordable units and preserve existing ones, and making recommendations to the Mayor and City Council.

The Task Force members, drawn from across the city, with a wide range of expertise and experience, worked through these issues in committees and working groups. They drew on the knowledge of advocates, developers, and national experts, including the Needs Assessment study by Mullin & Lonergan and the Feasibility study by Peninger Consulting, and most importantly the communities of Pittsburgh. The Task Force participated directly in the community forums, organized with The Art of Democracy, held throughout the city, and in May of 2016, based on their research, discussion, and community and stakeholder engagement, submitted its findings and recommendations to Mayor William Peduto and the Pittsburgh City Council.

Join us to learn about those recommendations and explore what the immediate, short-, and mid-term goals are in assuring access to affordable housing for all of Pittsburgh’s residents.

Speakers:

Co-Chairs of the Affordable Housing Task Force, Raymond W. Gastil, Director, City Planning, City of Pittsburgh (confirmed) and  R. Daniel Lavelle, Councilman, District 6, City of Pittsburgh (invited)
