New findings show that over the last 25 years, there was an unprecedented decline in child poverty. Yet this remarkable trend did not impact all children equally. Research from Child Trends show as child poverty rates declined at similar rates across groups, disparities in child poverty rates by parental nativity, race and ethnicity, and family structure persisted during the historic decline. Family economic solutions are still needed to continue to reduce child poverty rates while expanding equitable reach for families in underserved socio-economic groups. Hear from Renee Ryberg, Research Scientist at Child Trends, and Tammy Thompson, Executive Director of Catapult Greater Pittsburgh, to take a deeper look at the historic decline in child poverty and discuss groundbreaking community programs to increase community finances and economic justice in the region.
