Sustainable development can be defined as aspiring to a more livable, just, renewable, repeatable, prosperous region.  Moving toward sustainability requires that we attend to numerous facets of our region, from its people to the built environment to the natural world.  How do we know to what degree our region is approaching sustainability?  Who is minding the regional store and measuring data points as diverse as rates of infant mortality, levels of energy consumption, workers’ earning potential, and the number of species of freshwater mussels in our rivers?

Sustainable Pittsburgh and PittsburghTODAY address that question with their annual SWPA Sustainability Goals & Indicators Report.  With this report, they aim to fill a critical gap by bringing such systems-level measures and goals together in one thoughtful framework.  It is a call for a whole-region view and shared commitment to move the needle on all of the connected dots.

Join us on Wednesday, December 14 12:00 - 1:30 for a discussion with Court Gould, Sustainable Pittsburgh and Doug Heuck, Pittsburgh Today about the newly released SWPA Sustainability Goals & Indicators Report.  Along with a review of this 12-year report update, we will reflect about regional trends, challenges, and opportunities for putting the report to work to galvanize action.

Preview the report’s 29 goals and indicators which address overarching, regional issues that cut across our geopolitical boundaries and highlight the progress made and challenges that remain on the road to a healthier, more just, prosperous and sustainable region.

This will be a brown-bag meeting; feel free to bring a lunch.  GWP will provide beverages and dessert.
