It’s often said that food is a great uniter. That was certainly the case on June 1 – 2 of this year, when food and health funders from GWP and across Pennsylvania learned about the innovative efforts underway to improve local food systems in greater Philadelphia. Key local stakeholders like Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, SPC and the Pittsburgh Food Policy Council also joined us to share their perspectives and expertise.
Through site visits, networking, and opportunities to discuss local and state policies that affect population health and food security, the trip provided a unique opportunity to share knowledge and resources and connect with key stakeholders and policy makers. It can also form the basis of an important state-wide discussion about how philanthropy can improve Pennsylvania’s food systems and allow food to truly be the great uniter for all of Pennsylvania’s residents.
Join GWP for a roundtable discussion as we share key takeaways from the trip from the participants, and discuss potential next steps for funders interested in supporting local and state-wide food systems.
