Join GWP for an off the record conversation with Pittsburgh’s Director of the Department of City Planning, Ray Gastil. Our conversation will be moderated by Senior Program Officer at the Pittsburgh Foundation, Jane Downing.
The Department of City Planning (DCP) performs the processes and functions that create an orderly, timely, environmentally-sustainable, and consistent development of public and private property within the City. To achieve this end, DCP’s staff ensures that development is in compliance with the City's plans and applicable zoning regulations, and that development occurs in a manner which is equitable to the individual property owner, the developer, and the City of Pittsburgh. Questions regarding any of the department’s five divisions including; Community Development, Geographic Information Systems, Public Art, Strategic Planning, and Zoning and Development Review will be welcome.
Ray joined the City of Pittsburgh in 2014 as a hire by the Mayor through the City's partnership with Talent City. Previously, he was the Planning Director for Seattle and Director of the Manhattan office of the New York City Department of City Planning, as well as an educator and consultant.
We hope you will join us to hear from Ray and learn how he envisions progress for the city of Pittsburgh, his plans for shaping how we live in cities, communities, and regions tomorrow, and how the philanthropy community can best support him in advancing the region and serving its residents. As always, we will allow plenty of time for Q&A. The program will be followed by a brief wine reception from 5:00 – 5:30.
