A group of foundation staff has come together in recent months to understand how they can more effectively respond to the opioid crisis in Allegheny County. The group has agreed to continue meeting monthly to develop a coordinated approach to this issue. We welcome all members' involvement in this group and hope you will join us for this next session as well as mark your calendar for all upcoming monthly meetings.
During this session we will be joined by JoEllen Marsh, Opioid Community Response Manager at the Allegheny County Health Department. The Health Department team is now developing a CDC grant proposal for $15 million over three years, and many of the department’s priorities appear to align with those this funders’ group has identified. This includes communication about stigma and prevention, policy changes related to harm reduction and more, and Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD). This discussion, along with several of these topics from our last meeting will provide an opportunity to engage in a discussion about needs that ACHD will be unable to address.
