Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania and the Buhl Foundation invite you to learn more about the One Northside plan.  This session will entail a driving tour of the 18 neighborhoods of the Northside followed by a panel discussion surrounding the planning and implementation phases.  The tour will take you through Northside neighborhoods where you will see first-hand the many assets and attributes, as well as the challenges and opportunities, of the Northside.  Following the tour, join us for a panel discussion at Arnold's Tea.  Moderated by Fred Thieman, panelists will include:

  • Lisa Freeman, Northside Resident, Census Taker and Homelessness Team Leader
  • Deb Caplan, Vice President, Allegheny General Hospital and Team Leader for Workforce Readiness and Convening,
  • Traci Jackson, Jackson Clark Partner and One Northside Facilitator
  • Diana Bucco, Vice President, The Buhl Foundation

After the panel discussion, we hope you will stay on with us to enjoy some of the culture of the Northside with dinner at the Teutonia Männerchor followed by a visit to the nearby Elks Lodge to hear the Pittsburgh Banjo Club!

2:00 PM:  Gather at Arnold’s Tea (502 E Ohio Street) to board the bus.  A city-metered parking lot is located just behind the shop at the corners of Emlin & Middle and Foreland & Middle (pictured below):

2:30 PM: Bus departs for the driving tour of the 18 neighborhoods of the Northside. Diana Bucco and Fred Thieman of the Buhl Foundation will moderate our tour. We will also be joined on the bus by Andrew Butcher of GTECH and Mac Howison of Sprout who will describe the work of their organizations in the Northside.
3:30 PM: Return to Arnold’s Tea to enjoy high tea during the panel discussion outlined above.
5:30 PM: Join us for a short walk to Teutonia Männerchor for dinner.
7:30 PM: Walk to the Elks Lodge to enjoy a performance from the Pittsburgh Banjo Club.
We hope you can join us for this fun and educational opportunity!  You are welcome to join us for the entire afternoon, or join in at any point along the way.  After you register for this program, GWP’s Director of Programming, Jenny Nielsen will be in touch with you to confirm which portions of the program you plan to attend.

Please note that high tea at Arnold's, dinner at Teutonia Männerchor, and transportation for the tour will be included.  Each participant will be responsible for the cost of additional drinks and parking in the Northside.
