Jason C. Born is vice president for programs at the National Center for Family Philanthropy. In this role, Jason serves as NCFP's lead knowledge curator, content creator, and connector for philanthropic families. Jason is the founding editor of both Family Giving News and the Passages Issue Brief series, and serves as host of NCFP’s monthly Family Philanthropy Webinar series. He previously helped to launch Funders Together to End Homelessness as director of national outreach for the Melville Charitable Trust.
Pamela David is the Executive Director of the Walter & Elise Haas Fund (www.haassr.org), one of San Francisco’s most respected private foundations. Working within four primary areas of focus (public education, economic security, the arts, and Jewish life), the Fund’s mission is to help build a healthy, just, and vibrant society in which people feel connected to and responsible for their community. Prior to coming to the Haas Sr. Fund, Pam served in local government for over 12 years, working for three mayoral administrations in the areas of community and economic development, federal policy, and welfare reform. During her tenure in the public sector, Pam spearheaded numerous innovative reforms and partnerships, many of which included philanthropy. Pam’s history includes being a community organizer and activist on a range of civil rights and equity issues. Pam also has extensive non-profit board experience, and has served as chair of the board of Northern California Grantmakers. Currently, she is co-chair of the board of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and on the Steering Committee of Hope SF, an ambitious public-private partnership to rebuild severely distressed public housing.
Laura McCargar was appointed as President of the Perrin Family Foundation (PFF) in June of 2016. Laura joined the foundation in 2011 as a Program Officer, where she played a central role in designing the foundation’s youth-led social change grantmaking and the oversaw the development and implementation of capacity building initiatives designed to strengthen, promote and expand youth organizing across Connecticut.Laura’s work in the philanthropic sector and her deep belief in the power of youth-led social change is informed by her experience as a youth worker and organizer. Prior to joining the Perrin Family Foundation, Laura was awarded a Soros Justice Fellowship from Open Society Foundations to engage in research and organizing around the previously little known role that alternative schools and adult education programs play in Connecticut’s school-to-prison pipeline. From 2002-2010, Laura served as the founding Executive Director of Youth Rights Media, a New Haven-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth to use media and organizing strategies to create community change.
John Mullaney has been the Executive Director of the Nord Family Foundation since April 1998. Prior to his tenure at The Nord Family Foundation, Mr. Mullaney served in both the education and non-profit sectors and developing countries. He was a program and research manager at Harvard University’s Institute for International Development and a program director for the Latin American Scholarship Program of American Universities, also at Harvard University. In each of his positions, he had the opportunity to work directly with university faculty and public officials in Latin America, Europe and Africa. His experience in philanthropy began in 1982 as a country representative for Catholic Relief Services in El Salvador during that country’s civil war. John completed his undergraduate education at Boston College and a Master’s degree from Georgetown University.
Bob Reid manages the JF Maddox Foundation, which is a place-based private foundation in Hobbs, New Mexico. His foundation grant making experience has largely focused on education reform, higher education, workforce training, community and economic development, social services, access to healthcare, and substance abuse. He is also engaged in global development work in South America and Africa and is involved in research on organizational behavior and private philanthropy. Previously, Bob had a successful career in turning around underperforming healthcare institutions and managing a network of hospitals including both acute care and behavioral health facilities. Bob’s research has yielded important insights and implications for both management practitioners and policymakers. In his executive leadership roles in philanthropy and business, he has developed strategies for enhanced organizational leadership and effective governance.
