Capturing and sharing your family’s history is critical to understanding and appreciating your philanthropy, providing a window into the rich heritage of your extended family. Elders in your family often have particularly interesting stories to tell, and can help family members of all ages feel more connected with the generations preceding them, and gain an even greater appreciation of their place within the family. Debbie Brodsky is the founder of DMB Pictures, a boutique video production company specializing in producing documentary-style broadcast-quality films for nonprofits, businesses, foundations and families since 2006. Brodsky, a three-time Emmy Award-winning producer with more than 20 years of experience, focused much of her early career in public television, working for South Carolina ETV (PBS), WETA (PBS), and MHz NETWORKS. Her many years of professional interviews have included such notables as Senators John McCain & Bob Dole, Tiger Woods and Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig. Her foundation clients include the Sibley Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Marion I. & Henry J. Knott Foundation, and the Mittler Family Foundation. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University.
Bill Leighty is a Board Member and Director of the Earth Protection Program at The Leighty Foundation. He also serves as Principal of Alaska Applied Sciences, Inc. Previously, Bill was a Contract Budget Analyst for the State of Alaska, as well as a Marketing and Field Engineer for Collins Radio Company. He earned both a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from Stanford University. Bill lives in Juneau, Alaska and has been a small business owner for 47 years.
Kelly Medinger is Executive Director of the Marion I. & Henry J. Knott Foundation, a Catholic family foundation in Baltimore dedicated to strengthening communities in central and western Maryland. Kelly’s experience in the philanthropic giving arena spans more than 15 years, including work in family philanthropy, fundraising consulting, and higher education. She holds a Master’s of Nonprofit Administration from the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, as well as a Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science and French, also from Notre Dame.
David Weitnauer has been President of the R. Howard Dobbs, Jr., Foundation since 2007. He came to the Dobbs Foundation following an 11 year relationship with the Rockdale Foundation where he was a founding board member and its first Executive Director. David serves as a board member of the National Center for Family Philanthropy, trustee of the Rockdale Foundation, Steering Committee member for the Georgia Social Impact Collaborative, and the advisory committee for Foundation Center - South. He was recently elected to the board of the John H. and Wilhelmina D. Harland Charitable Foundation. David served previously as a trustee of the Southeastern Council of Foundations and was the founding chairperson of the Georgia Grantmakers Alliance. He was a member of SECF’s inaugural class of Hull Fellows. An ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), David has been on the pastoral staff of several congregations and served for seven years as a pastoral counselor and licensed marriage and family therapist with an ecumenical counseling center in Atlanta. A 1982 graduate of Davidson College, he received his Master of Divinity in 1986 and his Doctor of Theology in 1997 from Columbia Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Nancy, have two adult children, Sam and Claire.
