During this meeting, our main agenda item will be a special briefing on new local and national developments in addressing security and preventing future acts of violence by Shawn Brokos, Jewish Pittsburgh's Director of Jewish Community Security (more details below.) We will also take some time to introduce and get to know Judy O’Toole, the new executive director of the Fine Foundation, who is taking over for her predecessor Kathy Lachenaur as co-convener of this group. As always, we will dedicate some open-forum time as well for current issues and networking. Jewish Community Security Briefing Shawn Brokos joined the Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh in 2020 as the Director of Jewish Community Security after 24 years with the FBI. Shawn will provide funders with an insider view of the latest security plans and strategies in Jewish Pittsburgh, and an update on how national organizations - including JFNA, SCN and ADL - are collaborating with law enforcement to share real-time, actionable intelligence, strengthen security, and prevent future acts of violence nationwide. The briefing will also cover LiveSecure, a new national campaign to expand and improve local Jewish community security programs, and how Jewish Federations across the country can participate in this effort.

The Jewish Funders Learning Network is an informal network of philanthropists and grantmaking professionals in Pittsburgh who fund Jewish causes. Modeled after other GWP funder learning networks, and run in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, the purpose of this network is to create a space where:

  • People who think about grantmaking in the Jewish space can meet each other
  • Relationships are formed that carry beyond network activities
  • Funders have somewhere to go to safely and productively raise and discuss questions and concerns with their peers
  • Funders with common interests and approaches can form coalitions to address common causes.

We are committed to making GWP programs accessible to all members. If you have questions, or if accommodation would be helpful to fully participate in this program, please reach out to Paula or call 412-471-6488 and we will make every effort to accommodate your request.
