Disaster philanthropy has become an all-too-necessary practice in recent years.  Yet donors still are challenged to determine how, when, and to whom to give to have the greatest impact – both to ensure your community is prepared in advance of a disaster and after a disaster strikes.   The Center for Disaster Philanthropy helps individual, family, corporate, and institutional donors answer the question, “How can I help?” more easily by identifying best practices in being prepared to respond.

In partnership with The Foundation Center, The Center for Disaster Philanthropy recently published Measuring the State of Disaster Philanthropy 2014: Data to Drive Decisions.   In this special joint program for members of Grantmakers of Western PA and Philanthropy West Virginia,  Robert Ottenhoff (President and CEO of The Center for Disaster Philanthropy) and Larry McGill (Vice President for Research at the Foundation Center) will join us, via webinar, to discuss the findings of this report as well as its implications regarding resources and best practices specifically for corporate donors.

This webinar will engage participants in a conversation on how local, geographically-based philanthropists can prepare, plan, and collaborate around the topic of disasters.

Following the webinar, we will host a roundtable discussion to 1) share your organization’s current strategies and initiatives concerning working with local emergency responders, and 2) identify potential opportunities for collaboration.

Breakfast will be served.  Special thanks to Noble Energy for hosting this discussion.
