It’s only logical that leadership change is an inevitable aspect of nonprofit organizational life. Research suggests that each year, one in ten nonprofits goes through a leadership transition. And as more and more leaders from the aging baby boom generation begin to retire, we can expect to see a significant increase in these leadership turnovers.

Such turnovers can result in funder and staff concerns as well as community confusion that can often be disruptive to even the strongest organizations. These transitions need not be associated with negative impacts, though. In fact, when handled appropriately, they can be used as opportunities to grow and thrive.

It’s important for funders to have a clear understanding of the issues that nonprofits undergoing leadership transition should consider. Join us for a roundtable discussion of these issues, including the potential benefits of using an interim executive director.

Joining us for this roundtable will be Peggy Outon, Executive Director of the Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management and Bill Stein, a business and community leader who currently provides interim ED services, operates a consulting practice, and is the part time Executive Director of Family Tyes, a youth development and environmental conservation nonprofit.
