Imagine being able to see who is funding what and where—anywhere in our region, anytime, and with just a few clicks. Access to accurate, up-to-date grantmaking data is critical to understanding the funding landscape and ensuring that your giving is as effective as it can be. And that’s what GWP's Foundation Map is all about!
GWP partnered with Foundation Center by Candid over four years ago for “Get on the Map” – a data-sharing initiative to dramatically improve the quality and availability of giving data for our region. As more GWP member organizations join the initiative, their detailed grants data will populate our regional map and be viewable by other GWP members.
We are pleased to report that GWP’s grants map is growing steadily. Thanks to our members, compared to our 35 peer regional networks across the country, GWP’s participation rate (almost 20% of our membership) puts us in the top five!
Grants data submitted to the Foundation Center for “Get on the Map” powers two data tools available to GWP members:
- Foundation Map: Pennsylvania – an interactive map of detailed grants information that lets viewers visualize grantmaking in our region, available only to GWP members
- PA Foundation Stats – a dynamically-updating giving dashboard that visualizes foundations’ total giving, giving priorities, populations served and strategies, viewable by the public
Clearly, the foundation map increases in value when more funders submit their grant information to Candid/ the Foundation Center. So, the more participation, the more information you have at your fingertips.
We will be giving a demo of both of these data tools so you can see how to use them to assist your grantmaking. GWP will be providing lunch for this program and we encourage anyone interested in learning more about the Get on the Map initiative to attend.
