GWP’s mission is “to promote excellence in philanthropy – supporting an effective, growing philanthropic community that strengthens our region.”   That mission remains important – but the transformation in how Americans carry out their charitable giving has prompted GWP to rethink  our definitions of our “philanthropic community,” what “excellence in philanthropy” is and how “philanthropy strengthens a region” today.

In spring 2016, GWP engaged Tony Macklin as a planning consultant to work with its board and stakeholders to consider how philanthropy is evolving and how GWP might adapt to serve its members and the community most effectively in the near future.  After gathering insights from civic and business leaders, wealth advisors, nonprofit leaders and other stakeholders, plus several strategy sessions by GWP’s board, we’ve distilled the recurring themes and roles into these initial recommendations.  They offer a platform for evolution over the next four years, ensuring your philanthropic service organization remains relevant and effective in the future.

Your Feedback and Next Steps

We’re excited about GWP’s evolution and want to ask members for initial feedback.  Please take a moment to review the recommendations and join Tony Macklin, GWP board and staff for an update on GWP‘s strategic roadmap at one of these opportunities:

  1. Open conference call on 10/21/16, 12:00- 1:00 PM with Tony, board and staff
  2. Open conference call on 10/25/16, 9:00 – 10:00 AM with Tony, board and staff
  3. Brown bag lunch with GWP board and staff from 12:00 – 1:00 PM on 10/26/2016

The GWP board will meet on October 28 to discuss the initial feedback and create a final draft of a 2020 Roadmap to share with members at the December 5 Annual Meeting.  As GWP begins to test and prototype new activities in 2017, we’ll be inviting members’ feedback all along the way.

We hope you will join us to learn more and provide initial feedback during one of the opportunities. As always, you are also welcome to email Barb Taylor with comments.
