Incarceration is a national epidemic most often discussed from the perspective of how it impacts males.  While a smaller segment of the population, women are also involved in the criminal justice system as inmates, parolees, former offenders, etc.  We often forget that while fathers, brothers, and sons are leaving behind their families, mothers, sisters, and daughters are too.

Join GWP for a site-visit of The PROGRAM for Offenders’ new inpatient treatment facility for female offenders in West Homestead, followed by a roundtable discussion with local experts who will highlight the trends within the female criminal justice population and speak to efforts in place to help women who have been incarcerated to re-integrate into society.

Carol Hertz is the Executive Director of THE PROGRAM for Offenders, Inc. (THE PROGRAM) and is a pioneer in the field of women’s services in the criminal justice system.  Her current commitment is to ensure that THE PROGRAM’s vision to create a total alternative to incarceration for up to 230 women becomes reality in Allegheny County.

Amy Kroll is the Administrator of Re-entry Services in Allegheny County Jail.  In this capacity she oversees all the services that will help an offender re-enter his/her community to become a productive citizen.

LaToya Warren is the Deputy Warden of Inmate Services at the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh, Pa., responsible for ensuring quality, evidence-based rehabilitative programs in the jail and post-release, for the delivery of services to inmates, and for management of an extensive community corrections system.

This meeting will be a brown-bag lunch; GWP will provide beverages and desserts. Detailed instructions for parking, meeting location, etc. will be forwarded to participants several days in advance of the meeting.
